Authorities have written nearly 100 tickets for texting while driving in the first month Oklahoma state’s ban has been in effect.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. John Vincent says troopers have written 91 tickets for texting and driving and another 200 for infractions related to distracted driving. Troopers issued another 131 warnings for violations that fall under those statutes.
The Oklahoman reports that Oklahoma City police officers have written six tickets for violations of the law, and Edmond officers have only written three.
Norman Police Department hasn’t written any citations. Police spokeswoman Sarah Jensen says the Norman department is only giving warnings and educating citizens when they stop vehicles for such violations.
The “texting and driving law” went into effect Nov. 1. The statue says fines for related citations are capped at $100.
