The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado hit rural parts of northern St. Landry Parish and southern Avoyelles Parish in Louisiana on Saturday.
Forecaster Jonathan Brazzell said Sunday that the Weather Service estimates the twister that traveled between Big Cane in St. Landry Parish and Dupont in Avoyelles was rated EF-1 on the enhanced Fujita scale. That describes tornadoes with winds between 86 mph and 110 mph.
The twister began around 11:25 a.m. Saturday. KLFY-TV reports the storm damages trees, outbuildings and at least one vehicle
Brazzell says the Weather Service has yet to conduct an on-the-ground survey, but made the determination based on pictures.
