Some Louisiana homeowners with damage from the 2016 floods who received help from the state’s recovery program will be receiving checks for full reimbursement of their repairs.
Louisiana officials announced Monday they received federal approval to reimburse additional homeowners the full 100 percent for repairs they completed before entering the Restore Louisiana rebuilding program.
Until now, only low- to moderate-income homeowners with someone elderly or disabled in their households have received full reimbursement of money spent on repairs before entering the state program. All other homeowners received just 50 percent.
The latest expansion of the $1.3 billion homeowner assistance program is expected to provide 10,000 homeowners with an additional $110 million.
Pat Forbes, director of Louisiana’s flood recovery work, told The Advocate the checks will start being mailed this week.
