Mulready Voted in as Oklahoma’s Next Insurance Commissioner

Republican Glen Mulready has won the election to become Oklahoma’s next insurance commissioner.

According to the state’s election board, Mulready received nearly 62 percent of the votes in the statewide election, compared to just over 38 percent for his Democratic opponent, Kimberly Fobbs.

Mulready currently is a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives and is the House floor leader emeritus. He has previously served as the House insurance committee chair and has 35 years of experience in the insurance industry.

In a previous interview with Insurance Journal, Mulready said he had experience in both the property/casualty and life/health sides of the industry. He has worked as an independent agent, a broker and has held executive positions at two Oklahoma health insurance companies. He currently owns a small business that focuses on health insurance and employee benefits.

Fobbs is currently the chair of the Tulsa County Democratic Party. She previously held management and leadership roles at the insurance and financial services company, MetLife.

The state’s current insurance commissioner, John D. Doak, is term limited. He was elected to the post in 2010.
