A Texas state representative has filed a bill that would require proof of citizenship in order to purchase personal auto insurance.
Rep. Bill Zedler, a Republican from Arlington (District 96), has filed HB 2648, which would require an auto insurance purchaser to show proof of citizenship before a policy could be issued. An unexpired passport, a birth certificate or United States citizenship papers could be used as proof of citizenship under the bill.
If passed, it would go into effect on Sept. 1, 2019, and affect personal auto insurance policies issued on or after Jan. 1, 2020.
