Approximately 12,000 Louisiana Allstate customers will soon see a decrease in their auto insurance premiums.
Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple announced last week he has approved rate decreases for two Allstate subsidiaries.
Temple approved Allstate North American Insurance Company’s (ANAIC) filing for a 7.6% rate decrease for its 10,746 personal auto policyholders in Louisiana. The change takes effect on Jan. 8, 2026. Temple also approved Encompass Insurance Company of America’s National General program filing for a 15% decrease, which impacts the company’s 1,516 personal auto policyholders and takes effect on Dec. 8, 2025.
Rate changes are statewide averages, so each policyholder’s rate change will vary based on their individual risk.
An unnamed Allstate representative that the state’s recent tort reform efforts “reinforce confidence” that Louisiana is trending towards a healthier market for both insurers and consumers, according to an announcement shared by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. The Allstate representative said the carrier is “already seeing signs of increased competition for our business in the state.”
Louisiana lawmakers last year passed a series of auto insurance reform bills that were aimed at bringing more business to the state, both for personal and commercial auto. Lawmakers made more legal reform efforts in 2025, namely the passing of bills that revise the state’s comparative fault law and collateral source rule.
Affordability of auto insurance, particularly on the commercial side, is poised to be a hot button when lawmakers convene for regular session in March of next year.
