Florida fraud investigators charged the owner of two Edgewood chiropractic clinics with organized fraud and grand theft, the result of an investigation into an alleged scheme to cheat insurance companies out of over $2 million.
According to the Orlando Sentinal, chiropractor Milourdes Beliard Hopkins of Kissimee was accused of paying people, some of them Haitian immigrants, as much as $600 each to stage auto accidents in which innocent motorists were sometimes hit.
Authorities allege the fraud ring staged 500 accidents and filed false claims with 37 insurance companies.
