Georgia Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine announced that an arrest warrant has been issued for a Savannah insurance agent who has been charged with insurance fraud and other charges in connection with medical malpractice insurance and other commercial policies he sold to an area medical facility.
Daniel Mathews Wall, 39, has been charged with one count each of insurance fraud, forgery, theft by deception, and theft by conversion.
“Our investigation indicates that this agent was apparently preying on medical centers in rural Georgia,” Oxendine said. “We believe Wall charged a hospital fee for services that weren’t provided.”
Oxendine said the theft by deception charge is based on a fraudulent “risk management fee” of $50,000 that Wall allegedly charged, adding the bogus fee to medical malpractice premiums owed his agency, Insurance Office of America, 127 Habersham Street, Savannah.
Wall is charged with insurance fraud and theft by conversion for allegedly keeping $2623.00 in premiums that should have been paid to Travelers Insurance Company for a policy of crime insurance taken out by Burke Medical Center.
The forgery charge stems from an apparently fabricated premium quote for workers’ compensation coverage that Wall falsely claimed was from the Georgia Hospital Association Workers Compensation Self Insurance Fund.
Felony insurance fraud carries a penalty of two to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to $10,000. Oxendine is asking any medical centers or hospitals that might have done business with Daniel Wall or Insurance Office of America to call the Commissioner’s
Fraud Hotline at 1-800-726-6070.
