West Virginia Insurance Commissioner, Jane L. Cline, announced today that Nathan James Sigmon pleaded guilty last week to one felony count of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.
Sigmon, age 24 of Newton, N.C., was indicted on the felony insurance charge in 2006 for filing a false insurance claim and one felony count of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.
Sigmon, in 2004 along with three others, participated in a “staged” automobile crash and filed a claim with his insurance company. The three other participants pleaded guilty earlier to their parts in the scheme.
Sigmon pleaded guilty Aug. 23 to one felony count of conspiracy and in exchange for his plea, the State recommended that he be sentenced to one year in prison; however, it is recommended the sentence be suspended and Sigmon be placed on probation for one year, and ordered to pay his part of restitution to the insurance company.
