A Jesup, Ga., insurance agent is wanted on insurance fraud charges, according to Insurance Commissioner John W. Oxendine.
Catrina C. Whitley, 28, of Blackshear, Ga., has been charged with one count of insurance fraud for allegedly keeping premiums paid to her for insurance coverage.
Whitley, whose whereabouts are unknown, was a licensed agent in Georgia until December, 2006, when she did not renew her license.
Oxendine said Whitley was working for Brumbeloe and Associates Insurance Agency in Jesup at the time the alleged crimes occurred. Numerous clients of the agency complained that they were getting cancellation notices from their insurers, claiming lack of payment for automobile policies, though the clients had paid their premiums directly to
Whitely at the Brumbeloe and Associates branch.
“Our investigation, in cooperation with the Jesup Police Department, has turned up numerous victims of this scam and we expect for additional charges to be filed,”
Oxendine said. “Brumbeloe and Associates has made good on all the missing payments, so their clients now have the coverage they paid for.”
Oxendine urges anyone who has complaints about Whitley, or concerns about a policy they bought from the Jesup agency, to contact the insurance company listed on their policy to be sure they have the coverage they paid for.
