President George W. Bush approved federal disaster aid in Alabama to supplement state and local recovery efforts from Hurricane Ike in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
The White House announced Sept. 26 that the action makes federal funds available on a cost-sharing basis for repair and replacement of facilities damaged by the storm and floodwaters between Sept. 12 and Sept. 14. It also will help certain private nonprofit organizations that provided emergency assistance.
