The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office is offering teens in northeast Tennessee a reward for using seat belts.
Eleven teens observed wearing a safety belt this past week will be given a voucher to turn in at David Crockett High School to qualify for gift cards of $100 or $10.
According to a news release from the safety office, traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teens, and many of those deaths are preventable by wearing a safety belt. In 2008, 125 teenagers died in Tennessee traffic crashes.
Officials said mid- to late May is a particularly critical time because of proms and graduations.
