Hurricane Igor Weakened But Still Strong

Hurricane Igor has weakened a little, but still remains a large and powerful hurricane, the National Hurricane Center reported this morning.

The hurricane was about 1,000 miles southeast of Bermuda. It was moving at about 10 mph and has sustained winds of 145 mph.

The National Hurricane Center said it expects the hurricane to continue moving in a northwestern direction for the next 48 hours. It is still too early to tell if there will be any landfall. There are currently no warnings or watches along the U.S. coast.

Large surf swells from the hurricane are already affecting the Leeward Islands, and those swells are expected to reach Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands today. They are expected to reach the Bahamas tonight.

The swells will likely cause dangerous surf and rip currents.
