“A lawsuit over the death of a 15-year-old football player in Louisville, Kentucky has been settled for $1.75 million.”
concerned that if cities our willing to just pay when they don’t agree on liability, then for this amount it needs to be determined as to fault. i fear that just because and we want to just sue. there could have been other issues that caused the student to pass away. how can you blame the coach and his assistant if you don’t know the cause? you could have then blamed the medical staff because he passed away in their care for 3 days. the city is wasting their time and money just because and you wonder why insurance goes up! this is getting old!
This kid collapsed from heat exhaustion at a football practice where he was denied water breaks in high temperatures. His coach was criminally charged with reckless homicide. The “no liability” is a fiction. The carrier settled where the school faced an excess verdict.
MSNBC reported allegations that coaches denied players water breaks in the 94 degree heat.
If school employees are this stupid, they should be removed from their positions rather than have the districts (insurers and taxpayers) responsible for the their conduct.
