South Carolina Holding Hearings on Medical Marijuana

November 14, 2014

A legislative panel looking at the use of medical marijuana in South Carolina is holding hearings.

The committee met in Greenville on Thursday with another session set for Florence next month.

The panel established earlier this year will report back to lawmakers on how marijuana can be produced and distributed in the state for medical purposes.

The committee is also looking at state revenues from marijuana sales and the impact producing it in the state could have on public health.

Lawmakers learned during a hearing in Charleston last month that patients who could benefit from using the drug face a Catch-22 in that while marijuana is legal to prescribe, it’s not yet legally available in South Carolina.
