An Alabama pharmacist told a man who took hostages he could have any drugs he wanted – then grabbed his gun and walked out of the building after he took the medications and fell asleep.
Police say the situation began Tuesday morning when the gunman tried to rob the Redmont Pharmacy in Red Bay and took five people hostage.
Pharmacy owner J.C. Weeks said store pharmacist Donna Weatherford talked the man into releasing a customer and other store employees.
Weeks told WAFF 48 TV that Weatherford then told the gunman he could have anything he wanted in the pharmacy. She said she gave him the drugs he sought, and the suspect eventually fell asleep.
Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson applauded Weatherford, saying she “really took control of the situation and saved lives, including her own.”
