Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has reached a $5.75 million settlement with Nationwide Insurance regarding a discount on certain insurance products for West Virginia Farm Bureau members.
Morrisey announced the settlement July 2. Former Attorney General Darrell McGraw filed the lawsuit in McDowell County in January 2013.
Nationwide will pay $5.75 million to settle allegations that it violated state laws regarding its Farm Bureau discount. Some allegations said the discount was discriminatory, was not provided in full to eligible people, was not reflective of its rate filing and wasn’t upfront with its marketing, among other claims.
About $3.6 million will go to Morrisey’s office. The remainder will go toward attorneys’ fees and restitution to affected consumers.
Nationwide denies it violated state laws and the settlement does not include any admission of fault.
