Heavy rains have caused major flooding but no reported injuries in the West Virginia Northern Panhandle community of Follansbee.
Follansbee Fire Chief Larry Rea tells media outlets that two people were removed from their vehicles after becoming trapped in high waters Saturday night, while a woman was rescued from a first-floor apartment that had filled with 5 feet of water.
Rea says a former business collapsed into Allegheny Creek, causing the creek to rise into nearby streets. Crews worked to remove the structure.
Traffic was routed off flooded West Virginia Route 2 in Follansbee, while a road in nearby Weirton also became covered with water from the heavy rains.
