South Carolina Insurance Dept. Makes Staff Changes, Names New Deputy Directors

The South Carolina Department of Insurance will be implementing a variety of organizational changes that will become effective May 1, 2020.

These changes include:

  • Joe Cregan has been named chief deputy of Insurance Operations. In this role, Cregan will directly oversee the Actuarial and Market Services Division. He will also assist with oversight of the Licensing and Consumer Services Division and the Financial Regulation and Solvency Division.
  • Diane Cooper has been named deputy director of Licensing and Consumer Services. This division includes the Offices of Consumer Services, Agents Licensing, and Specialty Licensing.
  • Dan Morris has been named Deputy Director of Financial Regulation and Solvency. This division includes the Offices of Financial Examinations, Financial Analysis, and Captives.
  • Kendall Buchanan has been named Deputy Director of Market Regulation and Public Information. This division includes the Office of Market Regulation, Office of Public Information, and the newly created Office of Pharmacy Benefit Manager Oversight. She will also be responsible for special projects, which will continue to include the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust and serving as the agency’s Catastrophe Response Coordinator.
  • Gwen McGriff will continue to serve as General Counsel and Deputy Director of Legal, Legislative and External Affairs. This will now include oversight of cybersecurity event reporting under the South Carolina Insurance Data Security Act.
  • Tommy Watson will continue to serve as Deputy Director of Administration. This division continues to include the South Carolina Safe Home Program and Premium Taxation in addition to the traditional administrative functions.
