A small plane crashed into a Clearwater, Florida, mobile home park Thursday night, killing the pilot and two people on the ground, the Federal Aviation Administration and local news outlets reported.
The pilot of the single-engine Beechcraft reported engine failure shortly before the crash, the FAA said in a statement. The agency and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the incident.
The accident sparked a major fire in the Bayside Waters mobile home park just south of Clearwater Mall, WFLA TV news reported. At least four homes were affected by the crash and fire, Fox 13 TV news reported.
Another pilot flying nearby witnessed the crash and described it to air traffic controllers, noting that the plane fell hard into the homes.
