The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation is reminding carriers that additional data is due April 17 on Hurricane Ian claims.
All property insurers are required by law to submit the enhanced catastrophe reports, including additional claims and other data gathered after the storm hit in September 2022. The catastrophe reporting form (CRF) can be found at the OIR’s reporting web page.
The office said in a bulletin that:
- Each insurer must submit its CRF on an individual insurer basis only.
- If an insurer has no policies in force in Florida for the required lines, the insurer must submit a “no data” filing.
- Reporting is cumulative and must include all claims as of the reporting date.
- Each insurer must download a new template. Previously downloaded templates will not work.
As of October 2023, the latest data available from OIR shows that 758,644 claims have been filed as a result of Hurricane Ian. Some 90% of those have been closed, and 64% of claims were closed with payment.
