Florida law requires insurance agencies’ customer service representatives to work only at the agency office. But with another hurricane headed toward the state, and much of the western part of the state under evacuation orders, Florida’s chief financial officer has determined that in-office work is impractical, at best.
CFO Jimmy Patronis’ office on Monday issued an emergency order, allowing licensed customer service representatives, also known as “4-40” employees, to work remotely, for at least 60 days.
“The Department of Financial Services is aware that many insurance professionals are under mandatory evacuation orders, due to the impending landfall of Hurricane Milton, and that Customer Representatives subject to evacuation orders will be unable to transact insurance by operation of the provisions of Sections 626.7352 and 626.7354(4), Florida Statutes,” reads the order, a copy of which was provided by the Florida Association of Insurance Agents.
Continuing education requirement deadlines also have been suspended until Dec. 6, the order notes.
