Carolina Woman Charged with Using Mom’s Name to Get Policy, Filing Bogus Claim

December 2, 2024

A North Carolina woman is set for a court appearance later this month after she was charged with filing a claim on her deceased mom’s house – for damage that occurred before the insurance policy was purchased.

Cindy Ramzi Hanna, 48, of Greensboro, was arrested last week on insurance fraud and identity theft charges. The North Carolina insurance commissioner said in a bulletin that Hanna had used her late mother’s name to obtain a homeowner’s policy from North Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance. Her mother died in May 2023.

Hanna then attempted to file a claim for $49,000 for damage that was incurred before the policy was purchased, Commissioner Mike Causey said. The department’s Criminal Investigations Division investigated.

The alleged fraud was perpetrated in January. Hanna is scheduled for a Dec. 18 court appearance in Guilford County District Court.
