Smart Choice, a North Carolina-based firm that works with independent agencies, reported record growth, with more than 1,450 agencies joining the network in 2024.
Last year marked the eighth-straight year with more than 1,000 agencies joining, along with new carriers, the company said in a news release. The firm, with headquarters in High Point, was launched in 1994 to help agencies that may be profitable but were at risk of losing major carriers because the agencies were not meeting carrier growth targets, founder Doug Witcher said on the Smart Growth website. It now boasts more than 10,000 partner agencies, across the country.
The company, owned by Worldwide Insurance Network, said the model does not require an upfront payment to join, doesn’t lock agents into contracts, and allows agents to retain full ownership. Smart Choice said it provides agencies with access to markets, product training, and sales and marketing support.
President Andrew Caldwell said in a statement that he expects the rapid pace of growth to continue this year.
