It’s often insureds who come to Florida from Canada before winter sets in. But this week, it’s an Ottawa-based insurance brokerage that has moved into the Sunshine State with the acquisition of a Cape Coral firm.
Gifford Carr Insurance Group announced its first expansion outside of Canada by acquiring Omni One Insurance Agency, part of the Team Aubuchon group that includes home building, real estate, property management and title services, according to a news release.
The Florida agency will operate as Omni One Insurance, by Gifford Carr, and the firm’s team will remain on board. The agency offers home, auto, commercial and other lines of property-casualty insurance, according to its website. Matthew Carr is now listed as president of Gifford Carr and as CEO at Omni One.
The Florida Department of Financial Services records show Kathlynn Jackson as agent in charge at Omni One in Cape Coral. She is appointed with multiple carriers. Florida’s Secretary of State corporation records show Matthew Carr as manager at Omni One since July of this year. Carsten Dahms, a longtime insurance broker and owner of Omni One, retired this year and sold his shares in the firm, Jackson said.
