Investigators with the California Department of Insurance (CDI) Criminal Investigations Branch’s Fraud Division arrested an insurance company claims examiner Feb. 26.
Candace A. England of Oakland was arrested on nine counts of insurance fraud. England, 31, was employed by State Farm as a Claims Examiner since 1992. The State Farm Corporate Auditing and Emeryville Claim managers provided support and full cooperation during the investigation. If convicted, England could face up to six years in state prison.
According to investigators, England allegedly admitted that she did in fact file and submit false and fraudulent loss claims to insurance companies. She further admitted that those claims were supported by documents altered by her. In her position as a Claims Examiner, she had access to various documents from numerous claim files.
These were documents processed by State Farm, which England would then allegedly alter and use in the fraudulent claims that she subsequently filed with the California State Automobile Association (CSAA). England admitted to receiving $30,000 as a settlement payment on one of the fraudulent claims.
