Two Sacramento county area residents, Julie Ann Gonzales, 30, and Umberto Rene Gonzales, 32, were arrested on multiple felony counts of insurance fraud. The arrests are the result of an investigation by the California Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Branch’s Fraud Division.
According to investigators, between June 1, 2001 and Oct. 7, 2001, the suspects allegedly filed three fraudulent claims with State Farm Insurance Company for car stereo and tire thefts. The investigation revealed receipts submitted by Julie Gonzales were reportedly falsified with the help of her husband, Umberto. The Gonzales’ also claimed losses for property they did not own. As a result of their alleged fraudulent claims, the Gonzales’ received in excess of $6,000 from State Farm Insurance Company.
Bail was set at $3,000 each. If convicted, each could face up to five years in state prison and/or a maximum fine of $50,000.
