IBA West Board Approves Award to Honor Bud Wilson

November 26, 2002

The Board of Directors of the Insurance Brokers & Agents of the West (IBA West) has created the Bud Wilson Award to honor the service of David F. “Bud” Wilson of Chula Vista as president of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA – then IIAA).

In announcing the Bud Wilson Award, IBA West president Joe Hernandez said, “Bud Wilson distinguished himself and inspired his fellow IBA West members through his outstanding leadership of IIAA and his commitment to the American Agency System. We are pleased today to announce this award in his honor and to thank Bud and Sandra Wilson for more than two decades of their tireless service to this association, culminating in Bud’s IIAA presidency in 1997-98.”

In creating the Bud Wilson Award, the board unanimously adopted Bud Wilson’s request that it be presented annually to the chairperson of the IBA West Young Brokers and Agents Committee to participate in the IIABA Legislative Conference.

This is the third such award the board has established to honor an IBA West member elected to serve as the president of an affiliated national association. The two other IBA West members previously honored included Harlan Miller of Long Beach, who served as IIABA president in 1994-95, and Graham Anderson of Seattle, who served as president of the National Association of Insurance Brokers in 1987, which later merged with the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB). At Graham Anderson’s suggestion the board recently retired the award in his name and contributed the funds set aside for that purpose to a scholarship award honoring longtime IBA West PNW Chapter executive Jesse Gary.
