A Merced County, Calif. sheriff’s detective and a deputy under investigation on suspicion of insurance fraud resigned and confessed to being involved in an off-duty felony criminal act, according to the Modesto Bee.
Detective Armando Bravo, 27, and deputy David Buie, 24, both residents of Dos Palos, Calif., have charges pending against them after an investigation that revealed suspicious insurance claims. Buie allegedly reported that his truck was stolen and it later turned up destroyed by fire. Bravo reported his van stolen and it turned up in a rural area also burned. An informant had notified authorities in January and now the suspects face insurance fraud or arson charges.
