Wash. Gears Up for All Industry Day

January 9, 2006

On Feb. 1, the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of Washington, Surplus Line Association of Washington, Insurance Agents and Brokers of the West (IBA West), WA Council of National Association of Insurance Women, and Greater Seattle Insurance Professionals are gathering for an “All Industry Day” at the Capital.

Participants of the event will earn 4 hours of continuing education credits (applied for) while supporting the industry’s legislative efforts. The CE seminar will be followed by a networking reception to give insurance professionals an opportunity to talk about the issues with their legislators.

The conference begins with keynote addresses from Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler and Attorney General Rob McKenna.

Gerald Schmidt, president and CEO of Mutual of Enumclaw and chairman-elect of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, and Wesley Bissett, senior vice president of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, will update conference participants on federal issues that affect agents and brokers, including broker disclosure, insurance regulatory reform and natural disaster backstop.

A panel of insurance lobbyists, which will include Tom Parker of Surplus Line Association of WA, Mel Sorensen of Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) and Allstate, Jean Leonard of State Farm, and Carrie Tellefson of Progressive, will discuss the state legislative issues facing the industry.

Speaker of the House Frank Chopp will conclude the conference with his predictions for the legislative session.
