The rating reflects the company’s continued underwriting and operating profitability, solid capitalization and well-established local market presence in California. A.M. Best recognizes the company’s conservative operating strategies, niche underwriting expertise, aggregate risk management and extensive knowledge of the California earthquake market.
Currently Golden Bear Insurance Company (GBIC) writes direct business in California, its domiciled state, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming. GBIC is writing direct property and casualty business in the above states either on an admitted or non-admitted basis.
Golden Bear Insurance Company was organized in 1978 under the laws of California. It received its certificate of authority in 1981 and commenced operation in April of that year. During 2006, GBIC began expanding its ability to write policies in additional states.
