Well howdy-do!! Hillary’s social medicine has hit California in the form of auto insurance. Just what do you get for your $400 dollars. How low is “low income”? And how do such individuals find the money to afford a car? If this is anything like the plan in New Jersey, it ain’t auto insurance! I’m sure anyone in California who is hit by a driver with this policy is not going to be too happy to learn that their insurance is going to have to pay the brunt of the damages.
This is simply another political feel good action by the California legislature, they can’t balance budgets but they sure can solve the uninsured motorist problem. A wonderful group of idiots!
Quick, one of these insureds just piled into a brand new Lexus with a doctor, his heiress wife and their three children. Exactly how much liability is available? And another question: If the doctor hit the low income car, should the low income family be able to collect full limits on the doc’s policy? Only in the people’s republic of Cah-lee-fornya.
It is a rediculous program. The limits on the policies are lower than the state minimum limits of $15/$30/$10, which are way too low already. The insurance policy of the person hit has to pay most of the claim. It is really no different than a driver being uninsured. It makes me sick that the DOI thinks that this is a solution at all. This is just a political ploy to get more votes. If only the public really knew how little the low cost insurance covered.
If you ever thought trying to settle a claim with 3 or more vehicles was tough when you had 15/30/5 limits, just wait until you try to pay for more than one vehicle with a 10/20/3 Low Cost policy! The first time one of these came through my company, I sat there scratching my head and wondering how somebody could be legally drive while failing to be insured for the state minimum limits. If you can’t afford to drive, take the bus!

Quick, I am a State Senator who voted on this piece of crap legislation, who cares?
