Southern California Storms End Undramatically

December 14, 2009

Despite concerns late last week that rains might produce severe mudslides in the areas in Los Angeles County denuded by the Angeles National Forest wildfire, the rains apparently have tapered with little damage caused.

Over the weekend, 44 residents in La Crescenta, La Canada-Flintridge and Big Tujunga Canyon were evacuated. But they were allowed to return home on Sunday.

On Saturday, 90 cars became stuck by a mudslide on the Angeles Crest Highway. The mudslide blocked a 12-mile stretch of the road. By the afternoon, half of the cars had been freed. But other drivers had to abandon their cars and retrieve them later.
