    Going vertical really makes sense for the Washington and Oregon coast. There would surely be considerable casualties among those caught up in traffic jams if a Cascadia event happened during tourist season. Another option (though not visually appealing) that my risk manager/mechanical engineer husband/wife team came up with would be for individuals to erect masts or towers in their yards for refuge.
