University of Hawaii turned down concert insurance when $200,000 was paid for a Stevie Wonder concert that officials later learned wasn’t authorized by the artist or his representatives.
Athletic Director Jim Donovan and Stan Sherriff Center manager Rich Sherriff have been placed on paid leave for the bungled benefit concert. Officials are trying to recoup the money paid to a promoter.
Hawaii News Now reported that according to a proposed coverage document, UH turned down a cancellation and non-appearance policy.
The coverage proposed by Dodson Insurance Brokerage of Dallas would have provided up to $1 million of coverage for losses.
The university says the issue is among the questions that will be investigated.
The FBI says the Honolulu office received a case referral from the university.
