Gov. Sean Parnell declared this Tsunami Preparedness Week in Alaska.
Parnell, in his proclamation, says Alaska’s vast coastline is home to many communities that are vulnerable to tsunamis. He says the state also falls within one of the most seismically active regions in the world and has experienced 10 of the 15 largest earthquakes in the United States.
Parnell says he encourages all coastal communities to plan for tsunamis and to respond “swiftly and appropriately” to all tsunami warnings.
Tsunami Preparedness Week runs through Sunday.
