Alamogordo, N.M. officials say they plan to ask for state assistance for $230,000 in damages caused by recent flooding.
The Alamogordo Daily News reported that the city will submit damage estimates to the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security this week.
According to officials, the city incurred extensive damage from heavy rains and subsequent flooding between July 27 and Aug. 5.
Fire Chief Mikel Ward says there was $100,000 in sustained damage and rebuilding flood control infrastructure such as washed out arroyos costs another $130,000.
He says the city has spent $100,000 already on emergency responses and cleanup.
Otero County officials say the totals for Alamogordo and the county will likely meet the criteria for state aid.
