Gorst & Compass has named Russ Johnston vice president of business development and marketing.
Johnston is based in San Diego, Calif. and will be responsible for business development and marketing for the Western region.
Johnston comes to Gorst from Conway E&S, where he was vice president and West Coast manager. While there he launched the California office, managed West Coast operations and spearheaded social networking, product branding and event planning for the CEO. Prior to that Johnston launched a nonprofit called We Minus Me, a national organization developing intern programs. He also worked for Keller Williams Realty and was golf professional at High Point Country 
Club in North Carolina.
Chatsworth, Calif.-based Gorst is a full service wholesale brokerage firm. Their product lines include property/casualty, professional liability, personal lines, garage, transportation and workers’ compensation. Regional offices are located in Mission Viejo, San Diego and Sacramento.
