A San Francisco lawyer says he is bringing a racial discrimination lawsuit on behalf of a mostly black women’s book club whose members were ordered off a Napa Valley train tour.
Civil rights lawyer Waukeen McCoy said the federal court lawsuit seeks $11 million in damages, or $1 million for each of the 11 women who were kicked off the Napa Valley Wine Train in August.
Members of the Sistahs on the Reading Edge Book Club, all but one of whom is African American, have alleged they were marched down several aisles of a train and ordered off mid-trip for laughing too loudly during a birthday celebration.
The tourist attraction’s CEO has apologized for the incident and promised to provide diversity training to employees.
