$1M in Damage at University of Utah from Water Main Break

April 13, 2016

Fire officials say a water break has caused $1 million in damage to a University of Utah building.

The new estimates from last week’s flooding show it impacted 70,000 square feet of offices and equipment.

Officials say there were concerns that the water would come in contact with electrical equipment.

According to firefighters, the water seeped into the basement through an outside wall.

Fire officials say the water also brought in large amounts of mud.

University officials, however, say the initial cost of damages was high and believe the flooding only caused $250,000 in repairs.

The building houses the school’s Department of Pediatrics.
