A light earthquake has struck in Northern California and been felt by some people in the surrounding area, but there are no immediate reports of damages or injuries, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed.
The quake with a preliminary 4.7 magnitude struck Monday at 11:30 a.m. near the small town of Gonzales, about 75 miles south of San Jose, in an area appears to be almost entirely wilderness or agricultural fields.
The USGS says the epicenter was about 4 miles deep.
The National Weather Service office in Monterey tweeted the quake was felt in their office, 25 miles southeast of the epicenter.
Police and fire officials in and around the area reported no immediate damages, injuries or other problems.
