Recently I’ve been reviewing some of history’s “management fads.” You know, the ones that looked good for a time but ultimately proved to be worthless, detrimental to your employees or impossible to institute.
Because of this walk down management school memory lane, I’ve decided to give this fad thing a shot and have developed the 10 steps to GUARANTEED management success.
These 10 steps are purposely not detailed in this post. Each has several sub-parts that could apply, but I want to leave them open to interpretation for now – and your comment.
If you want the best department or company, here are the 10 steps every manager should follow:
- Hire the smartest, most ethical, and most customer-centric people you can find.
- Teach them the history of the company.
- Create a picture of what you want the company to accomplish.
- Create a clear vision of what you want that person to accomplish.
- Give them the tools or access to the tools necessary to accomplish that vision.
- Be available.
- GET OUT OF THE WAY!
- STAY out of the way!
- If you think about getting in the way and imposing your will, think, “Is it worth losing this employee just to get my own way?”
- Praise great results!
