Markel International Appoints Loader as Senior Underwriter, Marine Trades

October 12, 2015

Markel International, the London-based specialist insurer, has appointed Steve Loader as senior underwriter, marine trades, in its marine and energy division.

Loader joins Markel from RSA Plc where he had been a senior transportation underwriter since 2009 and was responsible for creating and developing the marine trades account. He has nearly 30 years’ experience in the class.

Loader will help launch Markel’s marine trades product which will provide liability, property, equipment, business interruption, builders risk, vessel hull and employers liability cover on a worldwide package basis. It will be offered for marine trades operations like marinas, yacht clubs, boat dealers, vessel repairers/builders, fishing harbors and marine contractors.

He will work alongside Charles Bragg, senior ports and terminals underwriter and senior marine and energy liability underwriters Andrew Carter and Chris Fenn. The new marine trade product will complement Markel’s marine liability and ports and terminals account.

“Steve is one of the marine trades’ market leaders and he’s a highly regarded and experienced underwriter so we’re delighted that he’s joining us,” said Paul Jenks, Markel’s marine and energy managing director.
