Survivors of the Interstate 35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minn., in August 2007 have until April 16 to accept or reject a settlement from the state’s compensation fund.
The state Legislature created a $36.6 million fund to compensate bridge victims. Survivors who accept money from that fund waive their right to sue the state.
A team of lawyers has been trying to figure out how much each person should get for his or her suffering.
The settlement offers range from a low of about $5,000 to more than $2 million. The settlements will be made public after they are accepted.
The collapse on Aug. 1, 2007 killed 13 people and injured 145.
