After more than 50 years of urging on Florida football fans, one the Gators most enthusiastic supporters is retiring.
George E. Edmondson Jr., a retired insurance agent who is known to UF fans as Mr. Two-Bits, says Florida’s 70-19 win over The Citadel last Saturday was his last game as the alter ego.
Since 1949, Edmondson has led Florida fans in the cheer: “Two bits, four bits, six bits, a dollar … all for the Gators stand up and holler!”
For each game, he wore an orange and blue tie, yellow oxford-cloth shirt, khaki pants and saddle shoes.
Edmondson, 86, says he’ll still attend Florida home games with his wife, but will be watching from the stands.
