It might have been a serious impediment to completing this year’s football season but Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, working closely with State Senator Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), was able to provide an assist to the Roosevelt Roughriders.
Farmers will present a check for $11,500 to Roosevelt High School varsity football coach and administrators to replace the team’s football uniforms which were stolen early in the season.
Cedillo, who quarterbacked for the Roughriders while he attended Roosevelt, responded to a call from a desperate coach having discovered the pads, uniforms and other equipment had been taken from a school facility in September. Cedillo worked with a local sporting goods store to get the uniforms replaced in time for the team’s next outing and later coordinated with Farmers to cover costs.
As a long time supporter of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) athletics, Farmers stepped in to help. The presentation comes on the eve of CIF Football Championships, to be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles this weekend. While the Roughriders just missed the championships, members of the team will be attending the games courtesy of Farmers which is also providing tickets to the team for the event.
