Concerns have been voiced by Florida’s CFO Tom Galla-gher over Nationwide of Florida’s decision not to renew policyholders in Florida.
“I’m deeply concerned that Nation-wide Insurance is non-renewing over 35,000 customers in Florida,” Gallagher said in a press announcement released by the Department of Finan-cial Services. “In light of the four hurricanes that struck Florida last year and the two that affected our state this year including Hurricane Katrina, there has been enormous strain placed on the homeowners and policyholders of this state.”
“I am calling on Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty to bring Nationwide back to the table on behalf of Florida consumers. After having been granted a rate increase just last month, Nationwide needs to reconsider its decision and renew these policies. We all have a responsibility to bring healing to the economy of Florida and the nation as quickly as possible,” Gallagher concluded.
