TIP/PIA Looks Forward to Continued Growth

September 19, 2005

At a late August executive board meeting and membership dinner at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, the Texas Insurance Profession-als/Professional Insurance Agents Association gathered to introduce officers for the coming year, award companies and their representatives for their work with the association, and reflect upon the past year’s successes.

Pointing out that TIP/PIA is an association of insurance professionals that complements rather than competes with other insurance agent groups in the state, President Jimmy Beathard told Insurance Journal that many of the organization’s members are also members of other agent associations, such as the Automobile Insurance Agents of Texas and the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas. “We’re all about selling insurance,” Beathard said.

Texas PIA was resurrected in 1995, three years after the original PIA of Texas merged into the group that is now the IIAT, which disaffiliated with the national PIA organization. According to the PIA national director for Texas, Randy Templeton, the new Texas association was formed by agents loyal to the PIA national group; Mike Rivera was elected as the new group’s first president. In a recent statement, Templeton said, PIA in Texas is “growing fast once again and we have a great convention planned in Texas in 2006. We are offering free continuing education for our members, and we still have a strong, competitive E&O program.”

Both Templeton and Beathard said TIP/PIA, which added more than 40 agency members over the past year, looks forward to continuing growth.

At the August meeting, the group honored Mercury Insurance Group as its Company of the Year; Barbara Glenn accepted the award, presented by Beathard, on the company’s behalf. Mabel Bryant, TIP/PIA immediate past president presented the Company Representa-tive of the Year award to Jon Rikard, of Fidelity Mutual Insurance.

TIP/PIA officers recognized at the dinner were: President Jimmy Beathard; President-Elect Don Miller; Immediate Past President Mabel Bryant; Secretary Tonya Regentz; and Treasurer Fred Steves. David Al-many takes over as secretary on Oct. 1, 2005, and Regentz will stay on board as a director.

The organization’s directors include: Randy Templeton, national director; Jonathan Klein, whose term expires Oct. 1, 2005; Tom Garcia; Tony Harper; Armando Cantu; Gordy Bunch; and Mark Solomon. Tom Sorrels begins a term as director on Oct. 1.
