Introduction to Insurance
Glendale Community College (Calif.) has added new credit courses for training in the insurance industry. Courses were developed as part of a $1.2 million President’s Community-Based Job Training Grant involving 16 California Community College districts and several employers and workforce partners. The Community-Based Insurance Careers Program (CBICP) is a collaborative effort by colleges and businesses to develop a customized curriculum.

The courses are Introduction to Insurance and Principles of Property and Liability Insurance. Spring classes begin Feb. 22. The introduction course will provide an overview of insurance including home, auto, medical, personal, commercial, property and liability. One section will be held Saturdays from March 6 through April 15. A second section will be held Fridays from April 24 through June 3. Principles of Property and Liability will cover property and liability insurance. The Saturday course will be held Feb. 22 through June 14.

Insurance Education Foundation
and CPCU educational forum

The Insurance Educational Association and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society’s (CPCU) Mt. Diablo chapter will host its 7th Annual Educational Forum, “Forecasting the Future,” on Thursday, April 6, 2006.

The forum is available for three continuing education credits. Topics include: Insurance Company Culture–Evolution or Revolution?; Wall Street’s View of the Insurance Industry; Transparency in the Insurance Industry; and The Other Side of the Workers Compensation Story.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, Calif. For tickets or information, call the Foundation office at (925) 280-8009.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Program of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation.

Sacramento Agribusiness Conference
The 19th Annual Agribusiness Conference for brokers and agents will be held March 15-16, 2006, in Sacramento.
The program will feature seven concurrent sessions running during both days. Participants can learn about basic farm coverages through the AFIS Designation tracks, or delve into specialized sessions from aquaculture to warehouses.

Latin American Agents Association conference, convention
The 7th annual Latin American Agents Association Convention will open its four-day program on June 8 in Long Beach, Calif. In conjunction with the convention, LAAA will host its 1st annual National Conference, with participation from association members from several states.

The event will be held at the Renaissance Hotel, adjacent to the Long Beach Convention Center, where the trade show will be located.
