The Biden Administration said in June that The National Initiative to Advance Building Codes is designed to “boost resilience to the impacts of climate change, lower utility bills for homes and businesses, and prioritize underserved communities.”
The initiative includes:
- Ensuring that federally supported housing and other building projects follow the latest building codes.
- Providing outreach, technical assistance, and capacity to support communities in adopting current building codes.
- Providing federal funding incentives that rewards jurisdictions for adopting and enforcing modern building codes.
- Updates to agency programs to incorporate the newer codes, including requiring resilience and energy efficient standards on new construction or rehabilitated properties that received recent grant disaster recovery funds.
